Saunakylä
Summer has turned to autumn at Saunakylä, and our sauna season for 2026 has come to an end.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who came to enjoy the saunas with us this summer. We hope you left with warm memories – and we would be very happy to welcome you back again next year.
And an especially big thank goes to our wonderful volunteers. Without their hard work and dedication, we simply could not have kept around 15 saunas warm and ready for visitors every Saturday throughout the summer.
In summer 2027, many familiar favourites will return: our traditional Saturday saunas, women’s sauna evenings, singles’ sauna events and private sauna bookings. Dates and schedules will be published here by spring.
A few words from our Chair about what’s ahead:
“Work continues behind the scenes at Saunakylä. Könkkölä has now been built next to the car park and is just waiting for the final finishing touches. A small log cabin near the café will be turned into simple sleeping accommodation, and restoration work on the Harju sauna is about to begin.
Korpilahti sauna will be the last restoration project. After that, the only piece still missing from the collection will be a sauna replacing Koistinen. We are still searching for the right sauna. There have been some promising candidates, but transporting an old sauna building here intact is no small task.
A heartfelt thank you to our volunteers
It has been wonderful to see so many volunteers taking part again this year. We have also welcomed smoke sauna-heating apprentices from around the world, including Canada, Japan and Norway. Watching new people discover Finnish sauna culture – and become completely captivated by it – has been one of the great joys of the summer.
My warmest thanks go to every single member of our volunteer team. You are the people who make Saunakylä what it is.
Saunakylä is a truly unique place, unlike anywhere else in the world. But it is not only the old saunas that make it special. It is the warmth, knowledge, enthusiasm and genuine spirit of the people who care for them.
Without you, there would be no Saunakylä – and there certainly would not be that special Saunakylä spirit.”
Saunakylä – Sauna Village is a unique smoke sauna village located in Juokslahti, Jämsä, featuring over 20 traditional Finnish smoke saunas dating from the 1700s to the 1940s. Carefully restored and originally from various regions of Finland, the saunas are actively used rather than preserved as static exhibits. This practice keeps both the historic structures and authentic Finnish sauna traditions alive, offering visitors a truly living cultural experience.
Step into “löyly” (steam), slow down, and immerse yourself in Finnish sauna culture exactly as it has lived for centuries.
